Just to touch on the recent protests in Greece that resulted in protesters fleeing from clouds of tear gas thrown by police officers, do any of you feel that a violent protest is more effective than a non-violent protest? I recently had a discussion with a self-proclaimed anarchist who claimed that violent protests are historically the only protests that have worked. I fail to make the connection that because a violent protest may have worked in one or several points in history, that they are the only ones that work. This seems like a observational selection fallacy because violent protests have also been shown to fail throughout history. Are violent protests more effective? Would a violent protest in the U.S. be more successful than a non-violent one? Will anyone take me to task on this issue?

Any help will be apprecited.

I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
